congregation.

Mysterious footprints and a stringer of catfish lead the family to find Josh, a 12 year
old runaway hiding in the barn. The young boy immediately attaches himself to John.

Jason meets Fern Lockwood, a recluse who shares his love of music, but she is timid and
finds life threatening. Ben goed to Norfolk and finds work and returns home to help an
overworked father.

Two Indians, an old man and his grandson, show up on Walton's Mountain claiming the barn
is built on sacred burial grounds.

The family has an encounter with a strange English girl while on a short vacation at the
Baldwin sister's beach cottage. Meanwhile, Ben stays home alone expecting to live the life
of a carefree bachelor.

When Erin says no to a marriage proposal from G. W. Haines he abruptly joins the Army.
Despite her father's reluctance, Erin visits GW at Camp Lee Army Base.

Mary Ellen gives birth to John Curtis Willard but a neighbor girl, whose baby died at
birth, steals John Curtis. He is returned unharmed. After a fire at the Dew Drop Inn,
Jason secretly gets a job playing the piano at a burlesque theatre.

Dr. Curt Willard is drafted to serve in the US Medical Corps. G. W. Haines is killed in a
training accident. Yancy Tucker excitedly announces that he is enlisting, only to be
turned down because of flat feet.
- The Battle of Drucilla's Pond 11/17/77
The Army pactices maneuvers at Drucilla's Pond. Olivia paints some quiet scenes, enters
them in a local art show, and they are bought by a mysterious admirer.
- The Flight 12/01/77
Jim Bob meets a new boy who says he is on his way to join the Air Corps. Elizabeth
"adopts" Maud Gormley as a substitute grandmother and Myrtle the goat has a
baby, Gingerbread.
- The Children's Carol 12/05/77(two hour episode)
Olivia's faith is put to the test when two orphaned English children visit Walton's
Mountain. Jim bob talks to London on his short wave radio and the children's mother is
found. The boy, Pip, is played by Kami Cotler's brother, Jeff.

Olivia copes with going through "the change of life" by visiting her aunt Kate
back in her home town of Alberene. Jim Bob fakes his mother's signature on a job
application.

John discovers that the family is almost out of debt so everyone pitches in on a big
contract. During the mortgage burning party, Ike announces that the bank is forclosing on
the store. John and Olivia come to his rescue.

Willy Brimmer and his family arrive on Walton's Mountain in search of work and a place to
live. Some townspeople are suspicious of their German accent and John comes to their aid.
- Spring Fever 1/12/78
Mamie Baldwin"s rose bush is dying and she views that as a sign of her own impending
death. Jim Bob and Ben date each other's girl friends and finally come to blows over their
jealousy.
- The Festival 1/26/78
Jason gets a lesson in prejudice when he and Verdie's son, Josh, audition for a recital.
Elizabeth and Aimee Godsey experience Spring fever.
- The Anniversary 2/02/78
John and Olivia celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Olivia surprises John with a
telephone, and John builds a gazebo for Olivia on the top of the mountain. Mary Ellen and
Curt are having problems being separated by the army.
- The Family Tree 2/09/78
With the help of Jason, Verdie searches for her roots and her family history. Elizabeth
corresponds with a soldier who thinks she is 18 and looks like Erin.
- The Ordeal 2/16/78(two hour episode)
Elizabeth breaks her legs in a fall from a log pile. She can only walk with crutches
until, one day, Jim Bob convinces her to walk.
- The Return 3/16/78(two hour episode)
John-Boy returns home to assist with the reopening of the old Guthrie Mine. While John and
the other men are working inside the mine, there is a cave-in, but everyone eventually
escapes.
- Revelation 3/23/78
John-Boy proposes to Daisy and they return home to make arrangements. John-Boy contacts
Daisy's mother and learns that Daisy has a three year old daughter.
- Grandma Comes Home 3/30/78
Grandma returns home to a loving family, but all is not well. She is overly protcted by
Grandpa and no longer feels needed. This was Ellen Corby's first appearance in the series
since her stroke in 1976. This would be Will Geer's last episode. He died during the
show's summer hiatus.
SEVENTH SEASON (1978-1979)
- The Empty Nest 9/21/78 (two hour episode)
The family mourns the death of Grandpa and Flossie Brimmer while John struggles to fill a
huge lumber contract. Mary Ellen and Erin get an apartment in Charlottesville. This
episode ends with a moving tribute to Will Geer.
- The Calling 9/28/78
Jim-Bob falls in love with the Baldwin's cousin, a young girl who is in a convent
preparing to be a nun. Ben hires a mill hand who turns out to be an alcoholic.
- The Moonshiner 10/12/78
Boone Walton (Morgan Woodward) returns to the mountain and gets in trouble with the law.
He is released in Jason's custody. Daisy Garner also returns for a visit.
- The Obsession 10/19/78
Mary Ellen abuses prescription drugs in an attempt to study long hours for her nurse's
exam. Yancy Tucker's wife, Cissy, has had enough and puts her foot down.
- The Changling 10/26/78
Just before her 13th birthday, Elizabeth becomes reluctant to grow up and creates a
poltergeist. Jason gets a new job as a radio talk show host giving advice to the lovelorn.
- The Portrait 11/02/78
Erin is both attracted and repelled by a brooding artist who just came from Paris. He asks
to paint Erin's portrait as part of a war-time mural on the wall of an old house.
- The Captive 11/09/78
Jim-Bob tries to teach Elizabeth to drive, but Elizabeth is not a quick learner.
Corabeth's drinking problem becomes severe and Elizabeth has to drive Corabeth and Aimee
home.
- The Illusion 11/16/78
Verdie's daughter, Esther, returns to the mountain disillusioned over having a college
degree and unable to land a meaningful job. Erin helps her find employment at J. D.
Pickett's plant.
- The Beau 11/23/78
A former suitor comes calling on Grandma much to the horror of Elizabeth. Jim-Bob
pursuades Yancy to make fuel in his still instead of moonshine.
- Day of Infamy 12/07/78
It's Christmas 1941 and Mary Ellen is planning to go to Hawaii to be with Curt. When the
news of Pearl Harbor arrives, the family learns of Curt's death.
- The Yearning 12/14/78
Elizabeth falls in love with the new minister who is forced out of the parsonage by a
skunk. Erin helps the Baldwin sisters write their memoirs and finds a ring left by Ashley
Longworth.
- The Boosters 12/28/78
Against John's advice, Ben talks the townspeople into opening an auto court. Yancy Tucker
goes into business for himself by taking a mail-order barbering class.
- The Conscience 1/04/79
Jason has second thoughts about military service and considers being a conscientious
objector much to Ben's dismay. Jim Bob gets a military tattoo.
- The Obstacle 1/11/79
An old friend of John-Boy's, Mike Paxton, is confined to a wheel chair and believes there
is no hope for the future. Through the help of the family he comes out of his shell.
- The Parting 1/18/79
Olivia and John are both tired and she suggests a vacation, but the vacation did not help
her and she visits a doctor. She is diagnosed with tuberculosis and must go to a
sanitarium.
- The Burden 1/25/79
Jim Bob escapes serious injury when a car jack slips and the car falls on him. He says he
saw bright lights and decides to become a minister.
- The Pin-Up 2/08/79
Ben enters a casual photograph of Erin in a contest and wins first place. Suddenly, and to
John's dismay, she finds herself the center of attention and the official pin-up girl of
Camp Lee.

The pressures and shortages of war-time shop-keeping cause Ike to have a heart attack. The
Walton children pitch in and keep the store open in Ike's absence.

Ashley Longworth Jr., bearing a striking resemblence to his father, appears at the Baldwin
house, and is courted by two suitors: Miss Emily Baldwin and Erin Walton. Story by Michael

- The Outsider 3/01/79
Ben arrives home in the middle of the night with his new bride, Cindy. They set up
housekeeping in the shed, but the early days of marriage are not easy until Grandma steps
in.
- The Torch 3/08/79
One of John's old flames, Cally May, arrives and buys the Dew Drop Inn. The children try
to protect their father from her attention. Ike, Cindy and Elizabeth turn Godsey Hall into
a canteen for the soldiers of Camp Rockfish.
- The Tailspin 3/15/79
Jim Bob fails an eye exam and can't join the Air Corps. He decides to run-off and join the
Army.
- Founder's Day 3/22/79
Jason struggles desperately with his music professor (Dean Jagger) to meet the course's
requirements of an original composition. He composes "Appalachian Portrait".
While he plays the piece, Earl Hamner presents a poignant narrative on the Blue Ridge,
nature, and the Walton family.
EIGHTH SEASON (1979-1980)
- The Home Front 9/20/79 (two hour episode)
While John serves on the local draft board, a young soldier he drafted is killed. The
boy's father threatens John and Jim Bob. The family receives notification that John-Boy is
missing in action.
- The Kinfolk 9/27/79
Rose comes for an extended visit with her grandchildren, Serena and Jeffrey. Ike and Jim
Bob build an air raid siren big enough for Richmond.
- The Diploma 10/04/79
Mary Ellen substitutes as the county nurse while John tries to prove to the Army that he
really did graduate from high school. He can't find his diploma so he takes another test
- The Innocents 10/11/79
Olivia decides that the mountain needs a day nursery for the children of defense plant
workers. Rose teaches Ike to dance but Corabeth thinks he has a girlfriend.
- The Starlet 10/18/79
A film company uses the Pickett defense plant for a war-time documentary, and the director
convinces Erin she has potential in Hollywood.
- The Journal 10/25/79
A publisher asks John and Olivia's permission to print the new book that John-Boy wrote in
Europe. John-Boy is still missing in action. Reckless becomes ill, but Jeff doesn't want
Reckless put to sleep.

Ashley Longworth Jr. returns to ask Erin to marry him, but she has serious doubts when he
confesses that he has lost his faith in God.

At the request of the Red Cross, Olivia searches for a soldier's wife that won't answer
his letters, meanwhile, Corabeth expects an inheritance.

Olivia joins the Red Cross to be near John-Boy who is in a coma. While Rose plans a big
Thanksgiving feast, John and Olivis spend the holidays with John-Boy in the hospital in
Richmond.

Jim-Bob meets and falls in love with Betsy, a married woman, while delivering her a
package.
- The Wager 12/13/79
Mary Ellen and Erin are coached by Elizabeth in a run-and-ride race being held to raise
war-bond money, while Jeffrey dreams of meeting his favorite female movie star.

An escapee, from a German POW camp in North Carolina, hides on Walton's Mountain and is
befriended by Jeffrey. The family asks him in on Christmas Eve.
- The Fastidious Wife 12/27/79
Corabeth gives Cindy a book on how to be the perfect wife, and she resolves to cater to
Ben's every need. Jeffrey brings home a cat he names Harold, who soon gives birth to
kittens.

A recruit in Jason's company is Jewish and tells how his grandfather was arrested and
killed by German soldiers in Warsaw.
- The Idol 1/10/80
A new teacher, Hazel Lamphere, arrives on Walton's Mountain and Elizabeth immediately
becomes attached to her. Ben and Cindy have a baby girl, Virginia.

Jeffrey and Josh get into trouble with the law after they break into Ike's store, and Ben
decides to enlist after being humiliated by a soldier in uniform.

Zeb's cousin, Zadoc Walton (Woodrow Chambliss), arrives on Walton's Mountain to keep a 21
year old promise, and makes a surprising contribution to Boatwright University and Jason.

Grandma helps Mamie Baldwin make a difficult decision concerning a cataract operation.

John decides that maybe he has had enough when equipment breaks down and Jim Bob breaks
his arm. Jeffrey builds a soapbox race car sponsored by Godsey's store.

Stanley Perkins (William Schallert) comes to Walton's Mountain and makes a reacquaintance
with his former suitor, Rose.
- The Furlough 2/21/80
John Boy finally returns home, and although physically cured , he still suffers from a
loss of memory. Ike ignores a letter from the army and is arrested for draft evasion.
- The Medal 2/28/80
Mary Ellen is attracted to Sgt. Eddie Ramirez and Corabeth is pursued by an old suitor.
- The Valedictorian 3/13/80
Jim Bob graduates as the class valedictorian and Erin learns that Ashley Longworth Jr. has
married in London. All the Walton boys leave for the War.
- A Decade of the Waltons 5/22/80(two hour episode)
The first eight seasons of The Waltons are reviewed through flashbacks. This episode is
narrated by Earl Hamner and features members of the Hamner family in Schuyler, VA.
NINTH SEASON (1980-1981)
- The Outrage 11/20/80, 11/27/80 (Two hour episode)
Harley Foster and John make an out-of-town delivery and have to deal with prejudice first
hand. Harley is arrested for an old crime and John sees President Roosevelt for a pardon.
- The Pledge 12/04/80
Mary Ellen feels inadequate as a nurse to help the mountain folk, and against the advice
of the Dean, applies to medical school. Ellen Geer, Will's daughter, guest stars.
- The Triumph 12/18/80
Jason and a young man in his squad deal with the question of killing as the War in Europe
draws to a close. Ike and Corabeth face problems with the Ration Board.
- The Premonition 12/25/80
Cindy has nightmares about Ben and he becomes a prisoner of War. In Paris, John-Boy falls
in love with a french girl who runs a book shop.
- The Pursuit 1/01/81
One of Jim Bob's old girlfriends arrives on the mountain and claims he is the father of
her baby. Ben is still a prisoner of war in the Pacific.
- The Last Ten Days 1/08/81
Ben's captor takes him on an unexpected trip and turns him in to the American forces.
Jason decides to seriously court Toni and Ben calls Cindy. The War ends.
- The Move 1/15/81
Ben returns from the War and tells John he plans to study engineering. Erin's long awaited
vacation is interupted, and John tells the family that he has to take olivia to a
sanitarium in Arizona.
- The Whirlwind 1/22/81
Mary Ellen agrees to marry Jonesy (Richard Gilliland) but learns that Curt might be alive
in Florida. Jason reopens the Dew Drop Inn.
- The Tempest 2/05/81
Mary Ellen discovers that Curt (played in this episode by Scott Hylands) is alive and
living in Florida, but he is quite different from the man she remembers. J.D. Pickett begs
Erin to come back to work.
- The Carousel 2/12/81
Cindy's father is killed, and while going through some old papers she discovers that she
was adopted and sets out to find her natural mother. Drew and Elizabeth have problems.
- The Hot Rod 2/19/81
Jim Bob and Jody celebrate their discharge from the service and decide to open a garage.
The Baldwin sisters are forced to close their "recipe machine," but discover
their Grandfather's still in a secret room.
- The Gold Watch 2/26/81
Rose's Stanley Perkins returns and eventually admits that he is suffering from a nervous
break down. Jason has problems when a new singer at the Dew Drop Inn pays too much
attention to Toni. Rose gives Stanley a gold watch.
- The Beginning 3/05/81
A new minister, Tom Marshall (Kip Niven), arrives on the mountain and shakes up his
complacent congregation. Toni moves into the Baldwin sister's home and tells the family
she is Jewish. She and Jason eventually decide to get married.
- The Pearls 3/12/81
Corabeth's twin-sister, Orma Lee, drops in on Ike while Corabeth is away. Elizabeth feels
lonely for John and Olivia and decides to visit them in Arizona.
- The Victims 3/19/81
The family comes to the aid of a woman whose drunken husband beats her. Jim Bob decides to
make a fortune by investing in war surplus.
- The Threshold 4/02/81
John-Boy returns home to ponder his future and ends up doing a television show for
Boatwright University. Zuleika Dunbar gives Rose a run for her money over the affection of
Stanley.
- The Indiscretion 5/07/81
Corabeth finds an old love letter of Ike's and files for divorce. Drew wants to spend a
romantic night with Elizabeth.
- The Heartache 5/14/81
Rose hides a heart condition from Stanley and cancels their planned wedding. All is worked
out and the wedding proceeds with John-Boy giving away the bride. Cindy realizes that she
would rather be home than work in a shop.
- The Lumberjack 5/21/81
Paul Northridge (Morgan Stevens), a member of a wealthy and influencial family brings
mystery and romance for Erin.
- The Hostage 5/28/81
In mountain tradition, a 14 year old girl is promised in marriage but Mary Ellen
interferes, and the bride-groom kidnaps Elizabeth to get his bride-to-be back. Meanwhile,
the Baldwins are treated to a visit by their eccentric cousin, Octavia.
- The Revel 6/04/81
John-Boy goes to New York to pursue his writing career but hits upon hard times and
returns home. The Baldwin sisters plan a lavish ball and send out invitations that are
returned. The family saves the day when they show up and the celebration is held. This was
the last scheduled episode of the series.
SPECIALS
- A Wedding on Walton's Mountain 2/22/82
Erin and her boyfriend, Paul Matthews Northridge, decide that they will get married on
Valentine's Day. Ashley Longworth Jr. suddenly appears and complicates Erin's life. John
helps Erin sort out the confusing emotions that she is feeling. The wedding occurs as
planned.
- Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain 5/09/82
Mary Ellen marries Arlington Wescott Jones III, Jonesy. Mary Ellen spends part of her
honeymoon in the hospital recuperating from an auto accident. She learns that her internal
injuries leave her no hope of having children. Michael Learned appears from a sanitarium
in Arizona.
- A Day of Thanks on Walton's Mountain 11/22/82
Elizabeth feels sad because most of the family has made plans to be away from the home for
Thanksgiving. One-by-one, however, the family members return for the holiday, including
John-Boy from New York. Young John Curtis has an imaginary friend in the woods. He
identifies his friend's picture in a photo album. It is his great-grandfather, Zeb.
- A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion 11/21/93
The entire Walton cast, except the deceased Will Geer, reunites for this special centered
around the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the Thanksgiving that soon follows that
trajedy. John-Boy and his fiance, Janet, return for Thanksgiving and the whole family
becomes embroiled in the events surrounding the assassination.
- A Walton Wedding 2/12/95
John-Boy and his fiance have planned a small wedding in New York City, but Janet's Aunt
Flo assumes management of their wedding and John-Boy returns to Walton's Mountain to do
research on Grandma's family. Olivia signs up for a class at Boatwright University and
John is elected to public office. Jason's wife, Toni, goes into labor during John-Boy's
wedding, and Mary Ellen delivers the newest member of the family, Patsy Kline Walton.
- A Walton's Easter 3/31/97
The year is 1969, man walks on the moon, John-Boy is a TV Reporter, and Janet is pregnant
with their first child.Elizabeth is making an unexpected visit and announces that she is
no longer keeping her fast paced job and is returning to Walton's Mountain for good. Much
to her chagrin, Drew has a new girlfriend. John-Boy decides the mountain would be a good
place to live and raise a child. He puts a down payment on a cabin but Janet wants to stay
in New York City. Janet delivers twins with the help of Mary Ellen, MD. The Baldwin
sisters choose John as the caretaker for their prized "RECIPE."
